quote•hapily can automatically calculate U.S. sales tax for your quotes.

First, if you haven't enabled the Automatic Sales Tax Calculation feature, review this article to learn more.

Required Information

For quote•hapily to calculate sales tax, certain information is required:

  1. Your tax location
  2. Product Tax Codes set on your products
  3. Complete customer address

Your Tax Location

quote•hapily supports a single taxable location today. Vote up the idea if multiple taxable locations are important to your company.

Set Product Tax Codes

quote•hapily can automatically calculate U.S. sales tax for your quotes. Once Automatic Sales Tax Calculation is enabled, you'll likely need to do some data entry for your products.

quote•hapily adds a new field to the Product object called Product Tax Code. There are hundreds of tax codes to choose from. We recommend creating a view in your Product Library that makes it easy to filter your products and easily apply Product Tax Codes to multiple products at once.

Customer Addresses

For customers in the United States, when the customer's state matches your taxable location, we attempt to calculate sales tax. A complete address is important, with at least the State and Zip Code provided.

If sales tax calculations are critical, we recommend creating a Quote Rule to enforce complete customer addresses.

Note: quote•hapily prefers state abbreviations (CA, NY, etc) and attempts to catch common data errors. But if your states are in another format (e.g., "NY - New York"), we won't be able to calculate taxes.
